Somfy vs Alpha Motors: Which Is Better for Motorised Blinds? 

Somfy and Alpha are the two motor brands we use for motorised blinds and curtains. Both are good. They differ in price, features, and ecosystem.

Somfy is the global market leader. Their motors are used in millions of homes worldwide. The RTS (Radio Technology Somfy) range is the most common for residential use. Somfy offers the TaHoma hub for smart home integration, which connects to Google Home, Alexa, and Apple HomeKit. The build quality is excellent and the warranty is strong.

Alpha motors are a newer competitor. They are manufactured for the Australian market and cost less than Somfy for equivalent motor. Alpha motors connect to their own app and integrate with Google Home and Alexa. They do not currently support Apple HomeKit. The motors are reliable and the feedback from our installations has been positive.

In practice, most homeowners will not notice a performance difference. Both motors are quiet, both operate smoothly, and both respond to remote, app, and voice control. The main difference is price. Alpha motors can save you a meaningful amount across a whole home installation with many windows.

If you are already invested in an Apple HomeKit ecosystem, Somfy is the better choice. If you use Google Home or Alexa and want to save on the motor cost, Alpha delivers the same daily experience for less.
