If you are building a new home in Brisbane, window treatments are one of the last things installed but one of the first things you should plan for. The decisions you make during the build stage, particularly around wiring and recessing, affect what products you can install later and how clean the final result looks.

Here is the timeline that works best: 

Before the walls close up, decide whether you want motorised blinds or curtains in any rooms. If you do, your electrician needs to run power to the window head at each motorised location. This costs almost nothing during rough in but becomes expensive if you retrofit it later. Even if you are not motorising now, having the wiring in place gives you the option later.

During the fit out stage, think about curtain recesses. If you want ceiling mounted curtain tracks, a plaster bulkhead or recess above the window hides the track and gives a seamless floor to ceiling look. Your builder needs to know about this before the ceilings go in.

After handover, that is when we measure and install. We need the final painted surfaces, the floor coverings in place, and all trim completed before we take measurements. Measuring on raw frames gives inaccurate dimensions because plastering and painting change the opening size slightly.
