Motorised roller blinds connect to smart home systems through a hub or directly via wifi depending on the motor brand.

With Somfy motors, the blinds connect through the Somfy TaHoma hub. Once connected, they appear in the Somfy app and can be added to Google Home or Alexa as devices. You create scenes, like a Good Morning scene that opens all the blinds at once, or a Movie Night scene that closes the living room blinds and dims the lights.

Alpha motors work similarly with their own app and hub. Both brands support scheduling, so you can set blinds to open at sunrise and close at sunset without touching anything.

The practical setup in most homes looks like this: wall switches next to the window for quick manual control, a remote for the couch, and the app or voice control for convenience. Most people use the wall switch daily and the smart features for automation and scenes.

Sensors add another layer. Light sensors lower the blinds automatically when the sun hits a certain intensity. Temperature sensors can trigger blinds to close when the room gets too warm. Wind sensors retract external blinds in strong gusts.
