Curtains and blinds Victoria Point, one room at a time

A One Curtains and Blinds makes and installs curtains and blinds for homes in Victoria Point, and a lot of our work here is with families updating an established house a few rooms at a time. We measure and quote for free at your place, bring full-size samples, and make everything to measure in our Hillcrest workshop.

You don't have to do the whole house at once

Very few families replace every blind in one go. Usually the old verticals in the lounge have finally given up, or a new baby needs a darker bedroom, or the kids' rooms are next on the list after the kitchen reno. That's fine by us.

When we measure, we'll look at the whole house if you want us to and help you plan it in stages. That way the front of the home looks consistent from the street, even if the back bedrooms wait until next year.

A typical order we see:

  1. Street-facing rooms first, because that's where privacy and first impressions matter.
  2. Bedrooms next, especially anywhere a child or shift worker sleeps.
  3. Wet areas, then the living spaces at the back.

Victoria Point at a glance

Victoria Point is a coastal suburb in Redland City, about 33 kilometres south-east of Brisbane, with Thornlands to the north across Eprapah Creek and Redland Bay to the south. At the 2021 census it was home to 15,140 people. Ferries run from the point across to Coochiemudlo Island, and Thompson's Beach has a gentle, shallow slope that suits small children.

It's a school-run kind of suburb, too. There's Victoria Point State School, St Rita's, a Faith Lutheran College campus and Victoria Point State High School, which opened in 1997. So a lot of the homes we step into have school bags at the door and a list of jobs on the fridge.

Plantation shutters for street-facing rooms

For front bedrooms and the lounge room by the street, we fit a lot of PVC plantation shutters. Tilt the blades and you get light and air without the neighbours seeing in. From outside, a row of white shutters also tidies up the front of an older house.

They're custom made to your windows, in fixed, hinged, bi-fold or sliding panels, fitted inside or outside the frame. They're cordless and moisture resistant, so the same shutter works in a bathroom later on. Pricing starts from $250 per square metre, and you can read more on our shutters page.

Venetian blinds, still a favourite

Venetians are one of the things people search for most around here, and for good reason. Venetian blinds give you fine control over light, they suit almost any window, and they cost less than shutters when you're doing several rooms.

  • Aluminium venetians are slim and hard-wearing, a good pick for kitchens and laundries.
  • PVC venetians handle bathroom steam.
  • Timber-look venetians bring warmth to living and dining rooms.

Some families put shutters on the street side and venetians at the back. It's a sensible way to spend where it shows.

Kids' rooms and the cord question

If you're replacing old corded blinds, the kids' rooms are the place to start. The ACCC mandatory safety standard for corded internal window coverings sets rules for how cords are secured, and we install to it every time. Our guide for parents explains the rules in plain English.

Cordless shutters, motorised roller blinds and blockout roller blinds with a tensioned chain are the options parents choose most. For a room that needs to be dark at 7 pm in summer, a double roller blind gives you light filtering for the day and blockout for sleep.

Victoria Point questions, answered

Contact us

Do you install curtains and blinds in Victoria Point?

Yes. We measure, make and install curtains, blinds, plantation shutters and screens for homes across Victoria Point. The measure and quote is free.

Can I do my windows in stages?

Yes. Many families start with the street-facing rooms and bedrooms and do the rest later.

Are plantation shutters worth it for the front of the house?

For street-facing rooms they're hard to beat. The tilting blades give you privacy with light and airflow, and they make the front of the house look tidy. Our PVC shutters start from $250 per square metre.

What types of venetian blinds do you make?

Aluminium, PVC and timber-look. Aluminium suits kitchens and laundries, PVC handles bathroom moisture, and timber-look slats are popular in living areas.

Venetians or shutters: which should I choose?

Shutters are sturdier and cordless, and they add to the look of the house from the street. Venetians cost less per window and still give good light control. Plenty of people use shutters at the front and venetians elsewhere.

What's the safest blind for a child's bedroom?

Cordless or motorised options remove loose cords altogether. If you choose a corded blind, we install it to the ACCC mandatory safety standard for corded internal window coverings.

How do I get a kid's room dark enough in summer?

A blockout roller blind face fitted outside the frame, or a double roller with blockout, cuts most of the light. Adding a blockout curtain over the top darkens it further.

Can you replace old vertical blinds?

Yes. We remove the old ones and fit your new blinds, curtains or shutters. We also make new vertical blinds if you'd like to keep that style.

Do you bring samples?

Yes, full-size samples, so you can see how each fabric or slat looks in your own light before you commit.

Can you add security or insect screens too?

Yes. We make security screens and doors in heavy duty, diamond grille and pet mesh, plus insect screens, and they can be part of the same plan.
