A One Curtains and Blinds makes and installs blinds, curtains and shutters for homes in Redland Bay, and most calls from here start with the same complaint: bright light bouncing off the water. We bring full-size samples to your home, measure and quote for free, and make everything to measure in our own Hillcrest workshop.
The catch with a water view
If your living room looks out over the bay, you know the trade-off. The view is why you bought the place. But from mid-morning the light comes up off the water as well as down from the sky, and the glare on the TV or across the kitchen bench can be hard to live with.
Full blockout fixes the glare and kills the view. What works better is usually two layers: something see-through for the day and something heavier for the night.
Farmland to suburb
Redland Bay is at the southern end of Redland City, about 35 kilometres south-east of Brisbane. For well over a century it was farm country. Early settlers grew sugar cane, pineapples and citrus, then later tomatoes, cabbages and passionfruit, until suburban development took over around 2000. The 2021 census counted 17,056 residents.
It's also the mainland port for the Southern Moreton Bay Islands, with boats running across to Russell, Macleay, Karragarra and Lamb islands. Plenty of the Redland Bay homes we visit are set up to face that stretch of water, which brings us straight back to glare.
Blinds Redland Bay homes ask us for most
Sunscreen roller blinds
For view windows, this is our first suggestion. Sunscreen roller blinds use an open-weave fabric that cuts glare and heat but still lets you see out during the day. In our experience darker sunscreen fabrics give a clearer view out than pale ones, so it's worth comparing both with our samples at your own window.
At night it flips around, and people outside can see in once your lights are on. That's why lots of people pair sunscreen with blockout in a double roller blind, two blinds on the one bracket.
Sheer curtains
If a roller feels too plain for the main living area, sheer curtains do a similar job more softly. They blur the glare and keep the room bright. Made with a wave (S-fold) heading, they stack neatly to the side when you want the whole view back.
Motorised external blinds for the deck
A deck facing the bay cops the afternoon sun and the wind. Motorised external blinds come down at the press of a button to shade the deck and cut the glare hitting the glass behind it. They run on Somfy or Alpha motors, with remote, wall switch, app or voice control, and you can put them on a timer or a light sensor.
Motorised blinds inside
Wide glass often means three or four blinds in a row. With motorised roller blinds, one button moves the lot, which beats walking along the window pulling chains one by one.
A quick room-by-room guide
- Living room facing the water: sunscreen rollers or sheers, with blockout behind for evenings.
- Bedrooms: blockout rollers or blockout curtains, especially if the room gets the early sun.
- Bathrooms and laundries: PVC plantation shutters, which are moisture resistant and start from $250 per square metre.
- Deck or alfresco: motorised external blinds.
How we work
Call us on 0425 241 013 or book online. We come to you, measure each window and hold full-size samples up against the light coming off the water. A small swatch in a shop just can't show you that. You get a quote, and the visit costs nothing.
Once you're happy, we make the order in our workshop and our own installers fit it. Before they leave, they set up any motors, remotes, timers or voice control and show you how it all works.
Why people choose us
We don't subcontract anything. The team that measures your windows is the team that fits them, and every blind is Australian made in our own workshop. Our Google rating is 5 stars from 59 reviews, and customers often mention Jessy and Puneet by name.
We also fit to the ACCC mandatory safety standard for corded internal window coverings, and motorised or cordless options take cords out of the picture if you have small children.
Nearby areas
We also cover Victoria Point just to the north, plus Thornlands and Cleveland. Living close to the water brings its own problems too, and our guide to salt air and window treatments goes through them.
If glare has you keeping the blinds down all day, let's sort it. Call 0425 241 013 or book a free measure and quote for blinds in Redland Bay.
