A One Curtains and Blinds designs, makes and installs curtains and blinds for Cleveland homes, and near the water we choose materials that can live with salt and sea breezes. We come to you for a free measure and quote, bring full-size fabric samples, and build every order to size in our own Hillcrest workshop.
An old bayside town
Cleveland is on the western shore of Moreton Bay, roughly 25 kilometres east-south-east of Brisbane. Redland City Council has its chambers and main offices here. The town was proclaimed in 1850, and two of its oldest buildings, the Grand View Hotel and the Old Courthouse, went up in 1852.
Today there's the Raby Bay canal estate, the ferry terminal at Toondah Harbour for North Stradbroke Island, and the Cleveland Point Light out on the point. A lot of homes are close enough to the bay to smell it on a windy day. That is the thing that shapes most of our recommendations.
Curtains and blinds for Cleveland's salt air
A sea breeze through an open window is one of the best parts of living here. It also carries salt. Over a few years that salt can pit exposed metal, make mechanisms feel gritty and leave a film on fabric that holds onto dust.
You don't have to give up nice window furnishings because of it. You just pick them with the coast in mind. Our longer article on window treatments for coastal salt air in the Redlands covers it in depth. Here's the short version.
PVC shutters instead of timber
Our plantation shutters are custom made in PVC, so there's no timber to swell in humid, salty air. They're moisture resistant, cordless, and a damp cloth is all they need. Prices start from $250 per square metre.
Aluminium and PVC venetians
For bathrooms, laundries and kitchens facing the bay, we usually suggest aluminium or PVC venetian blinds. You can tilt the slats to let air in and still keep your privacy. If you like the look of wood, the timber-look slats get you most of the way there.
Fabrics you can clean
With curtains, we lean towards fabrics that cope with regular cleaning. Sheers are handy in a bayside house because they soften the light and let the breeze through. Pair one with a blockout in a double curtain setup and you can shut the room down properly at night.
Roller blinds in a sunscreen fabric are another sensible choice. There are very few moving parts to worry about, and they take the glare off the water without hiding the view.
Motors and outdoor blinds
Motorised blinds and curtains run on Somfy or Alpha motors, controlled by remote, wall switch, app or voice. That means no chain swinging around in an open window. For decks and balconies, motorised external blinds cut the wind and afternoon sun so you can actually sit out there.
Upkeep
Whatever you choose, a regular wipe-down makes a real difference near the coast. We also do repairs and professional deep cleaning, which is worth knowing if your current curtains have had a few years of sea air.

Why homeowners call us
We design, make and install everything ourselves. The people who measure your windows fit them too, and we never pass work to subcontractors. We hold a 5-star Google rating from 59 reviews, and plenty of those reviews mention our installers Jessy and Puneet by name.
Got young kids or grandkids visiting? Cordless shutters and motorised blinds get rid of loose cords. Any corded internal blind we fit meets the ACCC mandatory safety standard for corded internal window coverings, and our child-safe blinds guide explains what that means.
Other Redlands suburbs we cover
Next door we work in Ormiston and Thornlands, and a bit further up the coast in Wellington Point. To the south we're regularly in Victoria Point and Redland Bay.
If you'd like curtains and blinds in Cleveland that still look right after a few summers of sea breeze, call 0425 241 013 or book your free measure and quote. We'll bring the samples.
