Blinds Springfield: smart fits for townhouses and compact homes

A One Curtains and Blinds makes and installs blinds in Springfield, along with curtains, plantation shutters, motorised window coverings and screens. A lot of our work here is in townhouses and homes on smaller blocks, where every window has to earn its keep and the budget has to stretch across the whole house. The measure and quote are free, and we bring full-size samples to your door.

Living in Springfield

Springfield is one of the suburbs of Greater Springfield, the master-planned city that Maha Sinnathamby and Bob Sharpless started after buying the land in 1991. The project is run by Springfield City Group. The suburb itself had 7,322 residents at the 2021 census, up from 6,772 in 2016.

It's well connected. The Centenary Motorway runs past, and the Springfield railway line branches off the Ipswich line at Darra. Woodcrest State College and Springfield Anglican College are both here. Put all that together and you get a lot of people who want a home that's easy to live in, close to the train, without much fuss.

Blinds for Springfield townhouses and compact homes

Smaller homes change the brief. Rooms are closer together, windows sit near doors and corners, and the neighbours can be a few metres away. Here's how we approach it.

Fit inside the recess where you can

An inside-recess fit tucks the blind into the window frame, so it doesn't stick out into the room or clash with a bedhead or wardrobe door. It looks tidy, and in a tight bedroom that matters. Most roller blinds and venetians go in this way.

The catch is depth. Some newer frames are shallow, and a blind needs enough room to sit flat and clear the handles. When the recess won't take it, we face fit outside the frame instead. We check each window at the measure, so you're not guessing.

Rollers take up the least room

When a roller is up, it's a slim tube at the top of the window. There's nothing stacking to the side, which suits windows hard against a wall. It's also one of the more affordable options per window, which helps when you're covering a whole townhouse at once.

Blockout for street-facing bedrooms

Townhouse bedrooms often face the street or a shared driveway. That means headlights, streetlights and people walking past. A blockout roller sorts out privacy and light in one go.

If you'd like daylight without being on show, a double roller blind puts a light-filtering fabric in front of the blockout on a single bracket. For rooms where you want privacy during the day but still want to see out, zebra blinds are worth a look too.

Spending the budget where it counts

We'd rather tell you where to save than sell you the dearest thing in every room. A rough rule we use with clients:

  • Spend more on the rooms you use most and the windows that cop the most sun, usually the living area and main bedroom.
  • Keep spare rooms, the laundry and the garage-side window simple. A plain roller or a PVC venetian is fine.
  • Wet areas are where PVC plantation shutters can pay off, since they handle moisture. They start from $250 per square metre, so many people fit them in one or two rooms only.
  • Only motorise windows that are hard to reach or that you'd open and close every day.

Sliding doors to a small courtyard are the other decision. Vertical blinds stack to one side so you can walk straight through, and a curtain on a track does the same with a softer look. We'll show you both.

What happens at your free measure

  1. You call or book online and let us know roughly how many windows.
  2. We come out, measure every window and check which ones can take an inside fit.
  3. You look at full-size samples in your own rooms, including blockout against the street side.
  4. We send a written quote, broken down so you can drop or swap rooms to suit your budget.
  5. Everything is made to measure in our Hillcrest workshop and installed by our own team.

Why Springfield locals book us

We're a small business that does the whole job ourselves. The same team measures and installs, and we don't use subcontractors. Our Google rating sits at 5 stars across 59 reviews, and plenty of those name our installers Jessy and Puneet.

Because it's all Australian made in our own workshop, sizes are cut to your windows, not squeezed from stock lengths. That's what makes a neat inside-recess fit possible in the first place.

Nearby areas we cover

We're often next door in Springfield Lakes and just up the road in Spring Mountain, where you can also see photos from one of our jobs. We work in Redbank Plains as well, and our projects page has more installs across Ipswich and Logan.

Springfield questions, answered

Contact us

What's the difference between an inside-recess and a face fit blind?

An inside-recess blind sits within the window frame, so it looks built in and doesn't take up room space. A face fit mounts on the wall or architrave outside the frame and overlaps the window. Face fit is better when the recess is too shallow or when you want less light leaking around the edges.

Which blinds suit a small townhouse bedroom?

A blockout roller fitted inside the recess is the most common choice. It's slim, easy to use and gives full privacy. If you want daylight as well, a double roller adds a light-filtering layer on the same bracket.

Are roller blinds cheaper than plantation shutters?

Usually, yes. Roller blinds are one of the more affordable options per window, while PVC plantation shutters start from $250 per square metre. Many people mix the two, with shutters in the bathroom or main living room and rollers elsewhere.

Can you replace the blinds my builder put in?

Yes. We measure fresh for every window, so you're not stuck with the old sizes or brackets. If the existing blinds are still in good shape in some rooms, we'll say so and only quote what needs changing.

How do I stop people seeing in from the street at night?

You need a blockout or opaque fabric on street-facing windows. Light-filtering and sunscreen fabrics let people see in once your lights are on. A double roller gives you both a daytime and a night-time layer.

Can I get blinds for just a few windows?

Yes. Plenty of people start with the bedrooms or the living area and do the rest later. We quote room by room, so it's easy to see what each part of the job costs.

Is motorisation worth it in a smaller home?

Only for some windows. It makes sense on high windows, big sliders or any blind you'd use several times a day. We use Somfy or Alpha motors, which run from a remote, app, wall switch or voice assistant.

Do corded blinds have to meet a safety standard?

Yes. The ACCC enforces a mandatory safety standard for corded internal window coverings to reduce the strangulation risk to young children. We install cord safety fittings on corded blinds, or you can choose chainless, cordless or motorised options.

How much do blinds cost in Springfield?

It depends on the number of windows, their sizes and the fabrics you pick. The free measure gives you an exact written quote, broken down room by room. The only fixed guide we publish is plantation shutters from $250 per square metre.
