Old houses and new ones on the same streets
Redbank Plains is a big suburb by Ipswich standards, about five kilometres from north to south. Houses started spreading south from Redbank in the early 1960s, and the growth hasn't really stopped: roughly 8,300 residents in 2006, close to 15,000 by 2011 and more than 24,000 at the 2021 census.

That last one matters. The ACCC's mandatory safety standard for corded internal window coverings sets out how cords and chains have to be secured so a child can't get caught in a loose loop. New blinds we install come with the right cord safety fittings, or we go cordless or motorised so there's no cord to worry about.
What goes up in place of the old ones depends on the room:
- Sliding doors to the yard: new vertical blinds still make sense, because they stack to one side and you can walk straight through.
- Living rooms that cop the afternoon sun: a sunscreen roller blind takes the edge off the glare and you can still see the yard.
- Kitchens and laundries: aluminium or PVC venetian blinds, which wipe clean and handle steam.

Double rollers and Romans, the upgrade most people go for
If you're only changing one thing in an older house, start with the bedrooms. A double roller blind puts a light-filtering fabric and a blockout fabric on one bracket. You get privacy in the day and a dark room at night, without adding curtains.
In the lounge or dining room, Roman blinds are the softer choice. They're fabric, they fold up into neat pleats, and they can make a 1980s window look like it belongs to a much newer house. They sit a little deeper at the head of the window than a roller does, so we usually suggest them for the rooms you actually spend time in rather than every window.
Repairs and deep cleaning before you replace anything
Not every old blind has to go. Sometimes a roller only needs a new chain, or a set of curtains that's gone grey just needs a proper clean. We do repairs and professional deep cleaning, and at the measure we'll tell you straight whether something is worth fixing.
