A One Curtains and Blinds designs, makes and installs curtains and blinds in Rosewood, as well as plantation shutters and insect and security screens. Much of our work out here is in older timber homes, where the windows are rarely standard sizes and off-the-shelf products don't fit. Everything we supply is made to measure in our own workshop, and the in-home measure and quote are free.
An old railway town with older homes
Rosewood sits about 20.5 km west of the Ipswich CBD, in the City of Ipswich. The railway came through in 1865, coal mining started up in the district in the following decades, and the town grew into a service centre for the mixed farming country around it. The 2021 census counted 3,263 people.
The timber buildings are a big part of the town's character. St Brigid's Catholic Church, consecrated in 1910, is often described as the largest timber church in the southern hemisphere. Glendalough, an Edwardian timber house from the early 1900s with verandahs on every side, is heritage listed too. Plenty of Rosewood homes carry on that same building tradition.
Why older windows need made-to-measure
In a new estate, windows come in a handful of standard sizes. Older homes are different. Frames have moved over the years, rooms have been changed during renovations, and two windows side by side can be a few millimetres apart in width or out of square.
That's why we measure every window individually, at several points, and make each blind or curtain to suit. A few things we look for on older houses:
- Tall, narrow windows, which often look best with a Roman blind or a curtain rather than a wide roller.
- Out-of-square frames, where a face fit outside the frame can hide the gap better than an inside fit.
- Sash windows and old hardware that the blind has to clear.
- Decorative architraves you may not want to screw into, which changes where brackets go.
None of this is a problem when the product is made for that exact opening. It's the stock-size blind that ends up with a gap down one side.
Curtains and blinds for Rosewood character homes
Plantation shutters
Plantation shutters suit the look of a timber home well, and we make each panel to the opening, which matters with odd sizes. Ours are custom PVC, cordless, and come fixed, hinged, bi-fold or sliding. Being moisture resistant, they also work in older bathrooms and kitchens. Pricing starts from $250 per square metre.
Curtains
High ceilings and tall windows are where curtains shine. A floor-length curtain on a ceiling-mounted track makes a tall window look deliberate rather than awkward. We make sheers, blockout and double curtains, and for very high windows there are void-area curtains with a motorised track option.
Older homes also tend to be draughtier and hotter in summer than new builds. A lined blockout curtain helps hold the temperature in the room.
Blinds
Timber-look venetian blinds sit comfortably in a character home and let you tilt the light. Roman blinds add softness to bedrooms and living rooms. For verandahs, motorised outdoor blinds can turn a hot western side into usable space.
Insect screens for rural blocks
On bigger blocks near paddocks and bush, flies and mosquitoes come with the territory. If you like the windows open on a summer evening, you need screens that actually fit. Older window frames are rarely square, so we make insect screens to measure for each opening.
For doors, our security screens and doors come in diamond grille, heavy duty and pet mesh options, with welded corners, in hinged and sliding styles.

Why choose us for curtains and blinds in Rosewood
Our own team does the measuring and the installing, and we don't use subcontractors. That's useful on older homes, where the person who took the measurements understands the quirks of the window. We hold a 5-star Google rating across 59 reviews, and customers often name Jessy and Puneet.
If you've got old blinds that still have looped cords, we'll point that out too. The ACCC's mandatory safety standard for corded internal window coverings exists because loose cords are a risk to young children, and any corded product we fit comes with the right safety fittings.
Other areas we cover
Heading east toward Ipswich, we also work in Ripley, South Ripley and Deebing Heights. You can see real installs from Ripley and other suburbs on our projects page.
