Curtains and blinds Wellington Point: Romans, double curtains and repairs

A One Curtains and Blinds makes and installs curtains and blinds in Wellington Point, and a lot of what we do there is replacing coverings that have simply worn out. Roman blinds and double curtains are the usual picks when people want a softer room, and we also repair and deep clean what you already have. Everything is made to measure in our Hillcrest workshop, and the in-home measure and quote is free.

Wellington Point, briefly

The suburb sits on Moreton Bay about 25.5 km east of Brisbane, in the City of Redland. Birkdale, Ormiston and Alexandra Hills are its land neighbours. At the end of Main Road the headland is a heritage-listed reserve, and when the tide is out people walk the sandbar across to King Island.

This isn't a new estate. Land sales in 1864 brought the first European settlers, the railway arrived in 1889, and Whepstead on Main Road is on the heritage register. You get a real mix of houses as a result: some have been lived in and renovated over many years, others went up far more recently. In the older ones, the window coverings have often had a long, hard life.

When the old coverings have had enough

The calls we get from Wellington Point tend to sound similar. A vertical blind with a couple of slats missing. Curtains that have faded on the side that gets the afternoon sun. A roller that creeps back up by itself. Old blinds with loose looped cords hanging within reach of little hands.

Some of that is worth fixing and some isn't. When we measure, we'll tell you plainly which ones can be repaired and which should go. Nobody needs to redo a whole house when only two windows are the problem.

Curtains and blinds in Wellington Point with a softer finish

After a renovation, a lot of people find that crisp new rollers make a room feel a bit bare. Fabric does the opposite. These are the two options we suggest most often.

Roman blinds

A Roman blind pulls up into flat fabric folds, so it reads more like a soft furnishing than a piece of hardware. Bedrooms, studies and sitting rooms suit them well. You choose the fabric from our full-size samples, and our Roman blinds can sit inside the recess or face fit outside the frame, depending on the window.

Double curtains

In living rooms and main bedrooms, double curtains are hard to beat. A sheer and a blockout hang on one track system. Keep the sheer across during the day for privacy, then pull the blockout at night.

If a room only needs the light layer, sheer curtains on their own are lovely on windows that look toward the bay. Linen fabrics are another good way to take the edge off a freshly painted, fairly empty room.

Wet rooms and the bay air

Bathrooms and laundries are another matter, because steam and fabric don't get along. PVC plantation shutters are moisture resistant and cordless, and they start from $250 per square metre. Living this close to the water also means salt air, which we cover in our guide to window treatments for coastal Redlands homes.

Repairs and deep cleaning

Well-made curtains can last for years if someone looks after them. Our aftercare service in Wellington Point includes repairs and professional deep cleaning, so a dusty set of drapes or a blind that has stopped behaving doesn't automatically end up on the verge.

It's worth asking about before you replace anything. If the fabric still has life in it, a clean or a repair may be all you need. If it doesn't, we'll say so and quote for new ones instead.

  5. Your order is made in our Hillcrest workshop.
  6. Our own installers fit it and check that every curtain and blind runs properly before they leave.

Why homeowners here use us

We design, make and install everything ourselves, with no subcontractors. The people who measure your windows are the people who come back to fit them, and the work is Australian made in our own workshop.

Our Google reviews sit at 5 stars from 102 of them, and Jessy and Puneet, two of our installers, get named in quite a few. Any corded internal blind we fit meets the ACCC mandatory safety standard for corded internal window coverings. That's worth thinking about if you're swapping out old blinds in a home where young children live or visit.

Nearby suburbs we also cover

We work right across the Redlands. Next door we cover Ormiston and Birkdale, and further along the Cleveland line we look after homes in Cleveland. Alexandra Hills is on our list too.

If the curtains or blinds in your Wellington Point home are looking tired, call 0425 241 013 or book your free measure and quote. We'll look at what you have and tell you honestly whether to fix it or start again.

Wellington Point questions, answered

Contact us

Do you install curtains and blinds in Wellington Point?

Yes. We measure, make and install custom curtains, blinds, shutters and screens for homes in Wellington Point. The measure and quote at your home costs nothing.

Should I repair my old blinds or replace them?

It depends on the fabric and the mechanism. If the fabric is sound and a part has failed, a repair often makes sense. If it's faded, brittle or the cords are unsafe, replacing it is usually the better call, and we'll tell you which when we visit.

Can you clean my existing curtains?

Yes. Professional deep cleaning is part of our aftercare service, along with repairs. It's a good option for curtains that are still in decent condition but have collected years of dust.

What's the difference between a Roman blind and a roller blind?

A roller blind winds onto a tube at the top of the window. A Roman blind lifts into soft fabric folds, which gives a warmer, more furnished look. Rollers are slimmer and simpler, while Romans suit bedrooms and living spaces where you want the window to feel dressed.

What are double curtains?

Double curtains are two layers on one track system: a sheer at the front or back and a blockout alongside it. You use the sheer for daytime privacy and the blockout when you want the room dark.

Are my old corded blinds a safety risk?

Loose or looped cords can be a strangulation risk for young children, which is why the ACCC has a mandatory safety standard for corded internal window coverings. If your older blinds have cords hanging within reach, it's worth replacing them with cordless or motorised options.

What window covering works in a bathroom?

We usually suggest PVC plantation shutters. They're moisture resistant and cordless, and pricing starts from $250 per square metre.

Can blinds go inside the window recess?

Yes, if the recess is deep enough. Otherwise we face fit the blind outside the frame. We'll recommend one or the other after measuring.

Do you bring fabric samples to my house?

We do. They're full-size samples, so you can see the colour and weight against your own windows, walls and furniture.

Can I motorise the curtains I already have?

Often, yes. We can fit a motorised track with a Somfy or Alpha motor and rehang your curtains on it, as long as the fabric and heading suit the track.
