How Builders Can Prep New Homes for Window Treatments 

If you are a builder, the window treatment decisions your clients make later will depend on the prep you do during construction. Getting a few things right at the build stage costs almost nothing and saves everyone headaches later.

Wiring for motorisation : Run power cables to the window head at every location where the client might want motorised blinds or curtains. A single GPO or hardwired cable at the top of each window opening is all that is needed. The cost during rough in is minimal. Retrofitting after the walls close is expensive and messy.

Curtain recesses: If the client wants ceiling mounted curtain tracks, a plaster bulkhead or recess above the window hides the track and gives a seamless look. This needs to be planned before the ceilings go in.

Window reveal depth: For inside mounted blinds, the window reveal needs to be deep enough to accommodate the blind bracket and the rolled up blind. A minimum of 75mm clear depth is standard. If the reveal is too shallow, the blind has to be face mounted on the wall outside the frame, which changes the look.
