A young suburb full of young families
Yarrabilba is a Priority Development Area overseen by Economic Development Queensland. Lendlease got the first stage approved in 2011, and Stockland, with its partner Supalai, took the project over in late 2024. The plan allows for up to 20,000 homes and around 50,000 people.
The census counted 3,580 residents in 2016 and 10,240 in 2021. Yarrabilba State School, St Clare's, the state secondary college and San Damiano College have all opened since 2017. So when we walk into a house here there's usually a pram in the hall or a cot in the second bedroom, and that changes what we suggest.
Child-safe blinds in Yarrabilba homes
Loose blind cords are a known strangulation risk for small children. Australia has a mandatory safety standard for corded internal window coverings, enforced by the ACCC, and it covers both the product and the way it's installed.
In plain terms, a corded blind or curtain must be fitted so a loose cord can't form a loop of 220 mm or longer anywhere below 1,600 mm from the floor. The cord safety parts that come with it have to be used, and the installer has to attach a label with their name and contact details. We do this on every corded job.
In a child's room, though, we'd rather there was no cord at all. The options parents pick most often:
- Motorised roller blinds, run from a remote or wall switch, with nothing hanging down
- Plantation shutters, which are cordless and don't mind being bumped by a toddler
- Chain-operated rollers with the chain tensioned and fixed in place, when a manual blind suits the budget better
Bought an older Yarrabilba house with corded blinds? Point them out when we visit and we'll tell you honestly whether they need changing.
Blockout for nurseries and shift workers
Babies nap at 1 pm. Plenty of parents work nights or start at 4 am. Either way, somebody needs a properly dark bedroom in the middle of a bright Queensland day.
A blockout roller blind is the usual answer, but fitted inside the recess it still lets thin strips of light in down the sides. For a nursery or a shift worker's room we'll often face fit it outside the frame with some overlap instead. Add a blockout curtain over the top, as part of a double curtain setup, and the room gets darker again.
Double roller blinds are the other one we fit a lot here. You get a light filtering or sunscreen blind for the day and a blockout for sleep, on the one bracket.
What holds up in a busy house
Crayon on the slats. A ball kicked through the lounge. The dog at the back door. Some products cope with family life better than others, and this is what we see lasting:
- PVC plantation shutters in bathrooms, laundries and play rooms, since they're moisture resistant and wipe clean (from $250 per square metre)
- Aluminium or PVC venetian blinds in the kitchen, where a damp cloth does the job
- Roller blinds in living areas, with no slats to bend and less for little hands to grab
- Security doors with pet mesh on the back slider, which is much tougher than standard fly screen
When something does get damaged, we also do repairs and professional deep cleaning. A torn blind doesn't always mean buying a new one.

Why local families call us
The people who measure your windows are the people who make and install them. We don't hand jobs to subcontractors. Our Google rating sits at 5 stars from 59 reviews, and customers often mention Jessy and Puneet, two of our installers, by name.
Being based in Logan helps too. We know these new builds, the standard window sizes builders use, and where the afternoon sun hits.
Nearby suburbs we also cover
We also look after homes in Logan Reserve and Park Ridge. To see finished work, have a look at our projects, including a job in New Beith. Getting from our workshop out to Yarrabilba is an easy run for us.
