A suburb that filled up fast
Pallara is on the southern edge of the City of Brisbane, with Forest Lake, Doolandella, Algester, Parkinson, Heathwood, Larapinta and Willawong around it. Electricity only arrived in 1961, and for a long time very few people lived here. Then it grew quickly: 511 residents at the 2016 census, 3,861 by 2021.
That growth means a lot of recently built homes. Many have an open stairwell, a raked ceiling or a void above the living room, with tall windows to match. They're lovely for daylight. They're also the windows people put off dressing because they don't know where to start.

Curtains for voids and high windows
A window that runs from the floor to near the ceiling line behaves differently from a bedroom window. The fabric has to hang straight over a long drop, the track needs a solid fixing, and you need a practical way to open and close it. Our void-area curtains are cut to the exact drop and usually made with a wave (S-fold) heading, so they stack neatly at the side.
Most households want privacy by day and darkness at night. A double curtain setup puts a sheer and a blockout on one track system, and you use whichever layer suits the hour.
Motorisation, because nobody wants a ladder
A curtain that starts well above head height is hard to operate by hand. We fit motorised curtains with Somfy or Alpha motors, controlled by remote, wall switch, phone app or voice through Alexa or Google Home. Set a timer or a light sensor and the western glass closes itself on a hot afternoon.

Skylight blinds
Skylights let in a surprising amount of heat. Skylight blinds take the edge off the glare and can be motorised, which makes sense for a skylight nobody can reach. Downstairs, roller blinds in blockout or sunscreen fabric do the everyday work in bedrooms and media rooms.
For wet areas and street-facing windows, PVC plantation shutters are moisture resistant and cordless. Pricing starts from $250 per square metre.
